When your caterpillar morphs into a butterfly, harping on how your butterfly is "failing to thrive according to standard, well-established caterpillar metrics used globally for the past thousand years and certified as super duper accurate for caterpillars by many respected institutions." is basically gibberish that says damn near nothing about the state of the butterfly's actual health for which we have zero established metrics, having never seen one before.

That's part of a comment I made years ago on Hacker News trying to clarify an earlier comment by me. It led to this blog which began during the pandemic and then much of the content here was cleaned up and moved to Eclogiselle during a time when I was trying to consolidate my writing and stop having a zillion topical blogs in hopes of getting traction.

That didn't accomplish what I hoped it would and in May 2026 I wrote a piece titled This is a Failed Experiment explaining why I'm discontinuing updates to that site. I had hoped that would become a consulting business in the community development space and it never did.

I've recently reversed course and reopened some long dead sites while desperately wishing I could walk away from blogging entirely because this is not getting me what I want or even what I need.
